- Tom Thumb/Kroger: Supporting Legacy is as easy as buying your groceries at your local Kroger and Tom Thumb Stores. It is easy to get started, and is no additional cost to you. Once registered, scan your reward card at checkout to start earning money for Legacy. Just follow these simple steps to get involved in this program.
- When shopping at Kroger stores:
- Get a physical Kroger Plus Card at the customer service desk at any Kroger store. Or for a Digital Plus Card, visit www.krogercommunityrewards.com.
- Go to www.krogercommunityrewards.com and create an account. You will need your Plus Card Number or Alternate ID.
- Click on “Community Rewards” and search for Legacy Counseling Center by typing 80163 in the search box. Select Legacy Counseling Center, INC, and click enroll. Once you’re successfully enrolled every time you shop at Kroger with your Plus Card, Legacy will receive a percentage of your purchase amount.
- When shopping at Tom Thumb stores:
- To get a card, visit the customer service desk and pick up a Tom Thumb Reward card application. Fill out the application and link your card to our account number 11932.
- For an existing card, visit www.tomthumb.com/ShopStores/Good-Neighbor.page and complete the form. Return the form to the customer service desk at your local stores.
- Tom Thumb will pay Legacy a percentage of our account total every time you shop.
- Giving appreciated assets: Giving appropriate property that has increased in value- including stocks, bonds, or mutual funds- can bring additional tax savings. These gifts are generally deductible at their fair market value if they have been owned for more than one year and can be used to offset tax on up to 30% of AGI. As an additional benefit, no tax is owed on the capital gain that would otherwise result from the sale of the asset.
- **If you have investments that are now worth less than their cost, consider selling them and using the cash proceeds to make a charitable gift. This creates a loss you may be able to deduct from taxable income, while also creating a deduction for the amount of the cash contribution.
- Giving through private foundations, donor advised funds (e.g., The Dallas Foundation or Communities Foundation of Texas, Dallas Women’s Foundation), charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, conservation easements or other gifts of real estate (e.g., vacation homes, personal residences, commercial real estate, etc.), and/or a bequest in your will.
- Charitable Gift Annuities: If you are over 55 and want to support Legacy, consider a charitable gift annuity (CGA). A CGA is a contract between you and Legacy Counseling Center. You make a gift of at least $10,000 to Legacy and we send you a payment each month, quarter or year for 4% to 8% of your contribution, depending on your age. A CGA can provide a greater return than a lot of assets in your retirement portfolio. Plus, CGAs give you an immediate tax deduction. Best of all, you’re investing in pivotal services that will help those living with HIV/AIDs at critical points in their life- an excellent investment! To learn more, please contact Melissa Grove, Executive Director, at melissa@legacycounseling.org.
- Gifts from retirement plans: Making gifts from your retirement plan may result in little or no tax on these funds because you report the amount withdrawn along with any offsetting charitable deduction. Check with your tax advisors for the specifics of your situation.
- If you are over age 70.5, special provisions now scheduled to expire at the end of this year make it possible to make tax-free gifts in any amount up to $100,000 directly from an IRA. Such gifts can satisfy minimum required distributions.
- Gifts of life insurance: If you own life insurance policies that are no longer needed for their original purpose, such as payment of estate taxes, these policies may be used to make a gift that can provide welcome income tax savings.
